Pastor John Yoon
Pastor John Yoon is the associate pastor of New Covenant Church. Born and raised in New York, he primarily focuses on the college ministry. He desires to see the young adult Christian community see the need for Jesus in their college campuses and workplaces and rise to the occasion in proclaiming Jesus Christ through their lives.
He is engaged to Lydia and is hoping to marry sometime next year. He enjoys listening to music, writing, and fellowshipping with the body of believers.
Currently, John is pursuing his M.Div from Alliance Theological Seminary. New Covenant Church is his first ministry. He has a heart for short-term missions with long-term vision.
Deacon Chiang Kim
I am born in S.Korea, and earned Master degree in Economics at Yeonsei University. After teaching Economics at universities in Korea, I came to U.S.A. to complete Ph.D. at University of Florida while working as T.A. in the Department of Economics at U.F. At that time, I was introduced to Gospel through the college Bible study. After acquiring Ph.D., I started to work in New York rather than going back to Korea to be a professor because I loved the American way of life. From the beginning of living in New York, My wife and I were guided to Joongbu Church by God's grace. We have daughter Hannah and son Derek who are first members for NCC's children ministry. I am still living both ways, secular and spiritual. I would like to consider the recent vote for the ordained deacon as God's encouragement for the spiritual growth. Therefore, I would like to ask you to pray for me to be humble to God's calling. One of joys in worshipping God here is watching the growth of NCC. Thank you!
Deacon Wook Chung
Wook has been growing in NCC/New York JoongBu since 2006. He first came to NJ when he was 15 as an international student (yu-hak-sang) . After long years of study and work (12 years), he returned to Korea to spend time with his parents and also to fulfill his military duty (Air Force JAG). He then came back to NY in 2006, and married Jeanne, the cutest middle school teacher in L.I.. Lord blessed his family with a baby daughter Katelyn Yaeun.
When Wook is not having fun with his family or working as corporate counsel, he likes to play golf, watch football or war movies (his favorite so far is the Lord of the Rings).
Wook's favorite Bible verse: I Cor 1:18
Wook's spiritual motto: 'Bind in Christ; Abide in Christ; Pursue Christ; Satisfy in Christ Alone!'
Deacon Eddie Kim
Eddie Kim is the deacon of the College Ministry. What makes him qualified for this role is that he once went to college. Rather than dwelling in sorrow about the fact that he's no longer in undergrad, Eddie wants to see college students live lives of faith and expand God's kingdom, both on their campuses and in the world. Having been spiritually transformed while involved in a campus ministry, Eddie knows the importance of being part of a community of faith and desires to see NCC's college ministry provide accountability, love and support for all college students.
Eddie is a 7th grade ELA teacher at a public school in the Lower East Side and was once told that he has "chicken toes" by one of his students.
He lives, breathes, eats all things sports and hates writing in the 3rd person.
Deacon Faith Haemin Kim
Faith Haemin Kim is one of the Deacons at New Covenant Church. She was born and raised in New York, mostly on Long Island. She has a passion for small group ministry, especially in studying the Bible. She has previously worked at an accounting firm as a Tax Associate. Currently, she is a candidate for a Master of Public Administration, at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, concentrating in economic development. She loves to spend time with family and friends eating and traveling. She has an adorable yellow lab named Jacob.
Deacon Christine Kwak
Christine Kwak serves as one of the Young Adult Life Group leaders at NCC, and also serves part-time as a keyboardist on NCC's praise team. She enjoys hanging out with her fellow NCC-ers, and dozing off during Pastor Hoon's sermons (just kidding P.hoon!).
Christine received her B.A. degree in philosophy at Columbia University ('07), then completed her M.M. degree at The Juilliard School ('09). She is a performing violinist/soloist and teacher, and hopes that the "starving artist" stereotype is never actualized in her life...
She loves spending quality time with loved ones, eating all kinds of food, going for jogs/runs, good coffee, and she especially loves her awesome NY Yankees.
Deacon Neil Park
Neil is a deacon for the Missions program at New Covenant Church. Neil's passion is reaching the 10/40 window and unreached people groups with the Good News, and praise ministry. Neil is a PK--which makes him more needy of grace--and after his father retired from ministry, Neil committed to serving at New Covenant Church and Joongbu Church in 2008. Neil is married to a beautiful and exotic foreigner from Toronto, and currently resides in College Point.
Neil attended Nyack College and unsuccessfully experimented with a philosophy/theology double major, only to change course and finish with a computer science degree. His background includes software stuff, consulting, hacking phones, and training puppies.
Deacon Eric Shim
Eric has been attending Joong Bu Presbyterian Church since the age of eleven, and after graduating High School, joined New Covenant Church in 1998. Eric, following his passion for music and serving the church, joined the worship team, Coram Deo, to play bass guitar. He has since stepped down from the team to serve as Worship Coordinator for the NCC Deacon Board. In this role, he oversees all elements of Sunday service to ensure a distraction-free worship environment. In addition, Eric serves on NCC’s Budget Committee as the worship team liaison.
Eric has been happily married to Gina, his girlfriend of nine years, since October of 2009. They live on Roosevelt Island where, everyday, they get to take in and enjoy Manhattan’s amazing skyline view. They love to bike around the island as well as the island's neighbors across the bridge, LIC and Astoria.
Deacon Gina Shim
Gina serves New Covenant Church as Secretary of its Deacon Board, a group of ten that hopes to function as the heart, hands and feet of the ministry. New Covenant Church and Central Presbyterian have been her faith community since 1998, during which time she has come to know the gospel and has learned to serve. Gina has a passion for worship and was a longtime member of New Covenant's praise team.
During the week, Gina does non-profit development work for Coridel Capital Partners, a private equity firm committed to active philanthropy in service of orphaned and vulnerable children in our global community.
In October 09, Gina married longtime best friend Eric and currently lives a happy newlywed life on Roosevelt Island. She has come to love the F line and the tram.
