What to Expect on Sunday
We understand it might be a little daunting for those who have never attended a church service before or are unfamiliar with our style of worship. To make it easier, this page gives you some idea of what to expect.
Before Service
Parking and Sanctuary: There is plenty of space in the lot by 1:45 pm, giving you plenty of time for our 2:15pm worship service. Services are held on the second floor of Central Presbyterian Church of New York.
Restrooms: Should you need the "facilities", restrooms are located on the ground level, to the left through the main entrance.
Attire: Dress as casually or informally as you feel comfortable, we're just glad to have you join us! Most folks are somewhere in the middle.
At the Sanctuary: New Covenant Church is a friendly church. Be prepared to be warmly greeted and engaged in conversation. When you arrive at the door you will be offered a worship bulletin which contains an outline of the service, and activities for the week.
During Service
Seating: Feel free to sit anywhere, no seats are reserved. The church is accessible to those needing wheelchairs or walkers. An automatic lift is located on the western end of the building.
Bibles: We encourage people to bring a Bible if they have one. Otherwise, simply ask any greeters and they'll provide you with a Bible.
Style and format: The service will include a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary worship choruses. We are a theologically reformed, culturally sensitive Presbyterian church. Sermons are Biblical and expository (explaining Scripture) but contemporary in application as current topics and life issues are discussed.
Children and Infants: Children are welcome! Believing it is important for parents, grandparents, and children to worship together, children are invited to our services. It is our practice to let parents and children decide what level of participation they feel comfortable with. We provide a church time class for children to be excused from the worship service. Nursery facilities are available for parents of infants at the back of the sanctuary, allowing parents to look directly into the worship service.
Offering: As a guest, you are not expected to contribute to offering so don't feel embarrassed to pass the collection plate without putting anything in it.
After Service
Fellowship time: We typically offer meals or snacks following worship. Please join us for a time of fellowship, getting to know each other and food.
